Aegis Risk Medical Stop-Loss Premium Survey Findings


This year’s survey, its tenth year with ISCEBS, reflects the ongoing rise in stop-loss premiums and a continued commitment to employer-sponsored, self-funded health plans. The occurrence of truly catastrophic claimants—in excess of $1 million—is further verified with over 18% of respondents reporting such a claimant in the last two policy years.

Stop loss remains the primary focus of risk management, with interest in private exchanges nearly disappearing at 1% amongst respondents. Captive arrangements show increased interest, but still slight at 14%. Additional updates are provided on individual stop-loss deductible by employer size and other coverage provisions, including aggregate stop loss. The primary focus of the survey remains current premium rates, as shown in the following graphs and tables. Stop-loss premium reflecting over 560,000 covered employees is measured. Survey Results: Financial Education for Today's Workforce

Financial Education for Today's Workforce: 2016 Survey Results examines the various types of retirement and financial education offerings U.S. and Canadian organizations provide to their employees and participants. The report finds that two-thirds of employers offer financial education to help their employees manage their personal finances and that four out of five employers find their employees' personal financial issues are somewhat, very or extremely impactful on their job performance. [Read more] (4/12/16)

A Closer Look: Workplace Wellness Outcomes

A Closer Look: Workplace Wellness Outcomes provides a look at what organizations with successful wellness programs are doing and offers hints to other organizations on how they can create more successful wellness offerings.

The report suggests that many employers are finding positive outcomes from their wellness programs and are using a wide-variety of factors to calculate success. Additionally, incentives continue to be popular in wellness programs and the report finds that when it comes to increasing participation, they appear to be working. [Read more] (2/11/16)

Educational Assistance Benefits: 2015 Survey Results

Educational assistance programs continue to gain steam with several large companies—McDonald's, Starbucks, and Chipotle all recently added or expanded their tuition reimbursement programs. The International Foundation administered a survey to find out why this classic employee benefit has remained so popular.

About five in six (83%) organizations offer some sort of educational assistance or tuition reimbursement benefit to their employees. [Read more]

ACA Cadillac Tax and Reporting: 2015 Survey Results

With the Cadillac tax on the horizon, employers nationwide are taking steps to determine if they will trigger the tax and then, most commonly, taking actions to avoid the tax. Nearly nine in ten employers have calculated if their health plan will trigger the Cadillac tax and, of those, 60% say that without any future changes their plan will face the tax.

This new International Foundation survey examines the actions employers are taking with the Cadillac tax. It also provides a look at employers' understanding and progress toward upcoming ACA reporting requirements. [Read more] (10/1/15)

2015 Employer-Sponsored Health Care: ACA's Impact

Employers say 2016 will be the costliest year yet for ACA Compliance, according to results from the International Foundation's latest survey. The impending Cadillac tax followed by administrative costs and costs associated with reporting, disclosure and notification are expected to be the top future cost drivers.

The annual survey, now in its sixth year, examines how single employer plans are being affected by the Affordable Care Act. The comprehensive report examines plan design and funding, reactions to health insurance exchanges, cost-management initiatives and the potential impact on health care benefit costs. Annual Defined Contribution Benchmarking Survey Findings

Enhanced offerings to make it easier for employees to save for retirement, combined with the growing economy, have stimulated employee contribution rates and account balances, according to ISCEBS and Deloitte’s 14th “Annual Defined Contribution Benchmarking Survey.” Plan sponsors and providers surveyed have invested nearly across the board in expanding offerings to engage employees, from automatic enrollment and step-up contributions, to individual financial counseling and mobile transaction processing. The number of plans offering step-up contributions increased substantially from 46 percent or respondents last year to 62 percent in 2015, and mobile transaction processing is now available for 59 percent of plans surveyed (up from 52 percent in 2013-14 and 25 percent in 2012). Domestic Partner Benefits After SCOTUS Decision: 2015 Survey Results

The U.S. Supreme Court decision on June 26, 2015 means all states must now license same-sex marriages or recognize those performed in other states. Workplace Threats - 2015 Survey Results

Despite seemingly common workplace fears like disease outbreaks, violence and natural disasters, the number one concern for organizations is a cyber attack. The International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans recently released their 2015 Workplace Threats survey and 37 percent of organizations said a cyber attack was their number one concern, compared to other potential threats. In response, organizations are more financially prepared – 64% are spending more now than they did 5 years ago for workplace threat prevention. View the related press release. (3/12/15)

Workplace Wellness Trends - 2015 Survey Results

Nontraditional wellness initiatives are quickly taking the stage as top wellness benefits, according to the Workplace Wellness Trends survey from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.  More traditional wellness initiatives like health risk assessments and flu shots remain popular among workplaces but the International Foundation noticed a growing emphasis on less traditional initiatives like mental health coverage (63%), encouraged vacation time (66%) and tuition reimbursement (63%).
