Using Paypal to Collect Meeting Fees

Does your chapter want to accept credit cards? Are your members asking for a payment option that doesn't involve requesting a check? Paypal is an easy and inexpensive way to accept meeting fee payment via credit card and gives your attendees another option for registration payment. And the good news is that your chapter doesn't need its own web site to use it!

Advantages include:

  • giving your attendees the option to pay with a major credit card (or bank transfer)

  • attendees are often able to register sooner since requesting a company check is not necessary

  • Paypal is secure and easy to establish and use

  • a separate chapter web site is not necessary

  • Anyone with an email address can send money via Paypal. A personal account is not needed.

  • There are no fees to send money via Paypal.

  • Low service fees on payments received keep this service affordable to chapters of all sizes.

If you're interested in establishing Paypal as a payment option for your chapter programs, follow these easy steps:

  1. Have your chapter's bank account and routing numbers available.

  2. Visit www.paypal.com and follow the prompts to establish a business/merchant account .

  3. Once your Paypal account is established and confirmed (this may take up to a week), call the Society office at (262) 786-8771 to give them your Paypal account's username and password (this will be kept confidential and used only by authorized staff members in step 4) and indicate for which upcoming program you plan to use Paypal.

  4. Once your program flyer is approved and complete, Society staff will post the flyer on www.iscebs.org, along with a link to pay directly via Paypal. The link will take users to a checkout page listing the chapter, program title, date and fee paid where they complete the transaction and receive immediate confirmation via email.

Here is a sample of what it will look like (the links are inactive).

Chapter Web Sites

Is your chapter considering its own web site? Many chapters have found that a web site is a great way to keep connected with current and potential members and utilize the creative talents of their volunteers. Whether your chapter is exploring the possibility or already has one, you can visit these sites and get an idea of what other chapters are doing.

Membership Recruiting and Retention

Membership Recruiting and Retention is not only important to the Society, but it is vital to local chapters. Recruiting and retention strategies vary greatly between chapters, but the goal is ultimately the same. If your chapter has a recruiting or retention idea, please send it to the Society and we would be happy to post it for other chapters. Additional documents and ideas are also available for chapters:
